Enquiries

The Knowledge Resources team provides an enquiry service, providing evidence-based information to inform decision making and support clinical practice. A limited service for non-urgent enquiries is only available to staff working for NHS Nottingham City, Nottingham CityCare Partnership, Nottingham City GP Practices, and Nottingham City CCG. To request a search, please complete the online form or contact the Resource Centre.

Supported Literature Searching

We can also arrange a supported literature search whereby a member of the Knowledge Resources team, subject to availability on a term-time only basis, assists a member of staff in doing their own search. To arrange a supported literature search, contact the Resource Centre.

Doing your own Literature Searching

NHS Evidence provides access to a number of healthcare databases including MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CINAHL. If you want to search these databases, you will need an Athens username and password to log in. NHS staff requiring an Athens account need to self-register, via NHS Evidence.

  • Go to http://www.evidence.nhs.uk  and locate the 'Register for Athens' button on the left of the screen. This will take you to the Athens registration pages.
  • Click on the 'Start registration process' button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Select your region, area and NHS trust (NHS Nottingham City) and complete the online form.

If you register via an NHS net PC, authentication is more or less instant; if you register from home, authentication is delayed by up to a fortnight.

Once you have your Athens ID:

  • Go to http://www.evidence.nhs.uk
  • Enter your Athens username and password
  • Click the LOGIN button.
  • Click on the e-resources link in the left-hand margin for a full list of databases, e-books and e-journals available.

Training

The department also offers one-to-one training sessions (subject to staff availability) on literature searching using the healthcare databases. Further information is available here
